Are There Different Colours of Braces?

The answer to this question is simple – ABSOLUTELY! Thanks to the all the different kinds of braces out there these days, we now have the option to customize our braces to become somewhat of a fashion statement.

Despite being able to select braces that disguise themselves in your mouth and remain virtually unnoticed, such as Invisalign or clear braces, the good ol’ steel braces still remain a popular choice. This is because the bracket and wire set up offers the opportunity to choose from an assortment of tiny coloured elastics. These elastics will be changed at each visit with your orthodontist, which means you can keep changing your look every visit! Your braces may just become your most stylish accessory.

Choose one solid colour to swap out each visit, or go bold and choose an assortment of colours all at once. Oilers finally made the playoffs? Blue and orange here we come. Stylize as you see fit.

You will want to keep a few things in mind though:

• Black, brown, and green elastics have the potential to look like food particles stuck in your teeth--not cool.
• White or yellow elastics tend to have the effect of making your teeth appear stained--it's best to avoid these ones!
• Darker colours help to make your teeth appear whiter--thumbs up.

You may want to choose elastics that compliment your skin tone or match commonly worn colours of clothing. If you’re unsure, don’t hesitate to get some suggestions from your orthodontist. Most importantly, be brave and have fun with it! Braces can be a great way to express yourself and show off that sparkling personality.
